North City Water Reclamation Plant

Picture2This 25 acre water reclamation plant processes & distributes recycled water to the San Diego region. The project is visible from high-rise buildings in the nearby UTC Corporate Office Park, so landscape elements were critical to community acceptance.
Picture3Sweeping lines of tall Poplar trees form a striking visual colonnade that leads visitors to the main arrival plaza. Colorful groundcovers decorate the alternating planting beds in the large streetscape area.
Extensive research was conducted to assure plant compatibility with recycled water that contains higher degrees of salt.
Slopes flanking the facility to the west were planted with Torrey Pines and flowering trees, as well as drought tolerant shrubs & groundcovers in accordance with strict CALTRANS requirements.
The facility was one of the first design/build projects in the region.
